Shiva’s creation – Chapter 3

As covered before, earth had been made with the body fat of madhu and kaitabha however the creation was not complete yet and it was time to adorn the world. So brahma created 8 primary mountains named sumeru, kailash, himalaya, malay, along with 7 island continents. The rivers and water bodies started flowing down to nourish this new world. The earth now came to be known as bhuloka, while the heaven was swargaloka. The world was split into 7 parts, including Atala, Vitala, Sutala and patala, and above these three regions lay Vishnu's abode. As time was ticking, Vishnu created the yugas, which were the satya yuga, Treta yuga, Dwapar yug and Kali yug which together, would form the mahayuga. Brahma now closed his eyes and brought forth 4 kumaras, who were child sages named sanaka, santana, sanandana, and sanatkumara. They were the very first sons of brahma, and since they were issued from brahma’s mind, they were known as the manasaputras and chatursana as they were 4. As Brahma was living his paternal sense for the first time, he informed the chatursana that they were created for a purpose and that they must assist him in procreation to populate the brahmanada. The kumaras immediately refused, and as the bewildered brahma looked in disbelief at the sight of his very first children disobeying his orders, the kumaras said that they do not wish to be confined within the circle of life and be dedicated to something so finite while the universe is infinite and that they would rather mediate not for this mortal world, but for a world beyond. Even though brahma negotiated and argued, the kumaras didn't budge and at the sight of them leaving, brahma’s anger mounted, causing a flareup from his forehead, creating a celestial being. The creature, with his boisterous roaring, demanded “ what is my name’’ as Brahma sat there in awe, the creature once again in his ravenous manner, roared louder. Since the word red and roaring is both “ rud ‘’ brahma named the creature rudra who was shiva or mahadeva. He now completed the cosmic trinity, Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer. Brahma now requested the god with folded hands, to aid in the process of creation. Shiva agreed and started creating creatures one after the another and Brahma's joy knew no bounds, only to be startled the next moment. Brahma soon realised that the god was multiplying himself, implying immortals! Brahma promptly told Shiva to stop, explaining that the cosmic balance may collapse and there must only be creation of mortals as everything must die and must be born again. Shiva shook his head, and explained that he can only create immortals, and if that nullifies Brahma's process then he can't be a part of it. Shiva departed claiming that he would rather meditate, leaving the 11 rudra’s behind. Braham realised that neither paucity nor plenty helped him. Since the rudras now needed a place to live, Brahma allocated 11 places to them. One got the heart, 5 were the sense organs, and the remaining 5 got the elements. Brahma had now understood that creation was solely his karma, and only him alone, could complete it effectively.
